About Shashani Lodge
Perched atop a granite hill on a private game reserve and overlooking the amazing Zimbabwean landscape, sits Shashani Lodge.
Shashani Lodge History
Shashani Lodge can be found in the Matobo Hills, between the whaleback dwalas and broken kopjes, strewn with boulders.
It is a family business that, in 1995, sectioned off an area for a game ranch to preserve the flora, fauna, and wildlife.
On a lonesome walk in 1998, a particular kopje stood out. The view as you stood on top was heavenly. It was decided a lodge would be built on this spot.
Shashani started off with 8 lodges (bathroom en suite and a secure veranda), along with a dining area, kitchen and pub area.
Being in Matabeleland, with our summer heat, a rather large dipping pool was also constructed. As time passed, the lodges increased to 10.
Thatching on the roofs of the lodges, kitchen, dining area, and pub all come from the farm’s winter grass. The granite rock used to erect the buildings comes from the surrounding area too. There are cave paintings not far away for one to admire on a walk through thickets of vegetation common to the area.
